Getting laid off in your 20’s

I am only 23 and have been laid off twice- yep you read that right…

Right out of college I landed my dream job at my dream company in influencer marketing, and loved my life for 7 months. January 2023 hit and our largest client decided to part ways, which resulted in a company wide lay off.

I. Was. Terrified. How am I 23 and getting laid off?? It was really tough to come to terms with as I not only loved my job, but am also someone who is very money-centric due to having a job since 14 years old.

With that in mind, I rushed the process of finding a new job as I had bills to pay and couldn’t afford to take my time. A month and a half later I found myself in a new position at a startup. Probably not the most secure job, but I had an income and at the time that is all that mattered!

In May 2023 I was blindsided and laid off yet again from that startup job due to work reduction. This time, I was mad at the company for hiring someone only to cut back on workers 2 months later, but I was also mad at myself for rushing into a position I wasn’t confident in.

I have learned a lot in 2023 already, as I have faced trials in the workforce that no 23 year old would wish upon someone else. This time around I am TAKING MY TIME! My goal is to get back into influencer marketing, as that is what I love to do. I’m learning to trust the process, and not just jump at a mediocre opportunity because I am stressed.

Let’s be real, getting laid off SUCKS, but it’s how you handle yourself in the after math that matters! You are worthy of finding a job that you love (something I am trying to remind myself of daily ❤️)

My heart goes out to everyone who has been affected by lay offs in this shit market, we will get through this together!
