Time to add these into your next Korea trip 😼 & since these foods / food spots are my personal favourite throughout my entire trip, i thought i should share some here 🫶🏼 …

1) NAENGMYEON (“Cold Noodles”)

Served in a chilled broth from beef and/or Korean radish water kimchi, these noodles are topped with cucumbers, Korean pears, pickled radish, boiled beef, & egg. In some restaurants, they will serve it spicy with gochujang sauce 🌶️

The noodles are made from flour & starch of various ingredients such as buckwheat, potatoes (or sweet potatoes), arrowroot starch & kudzu — which explains the noodles chewy texture !!

Usually, mustard and sugar will be provided at the side for you to add into the dish (you can experiment with it as well until you get the flavour that you like 😆)

2) SEAFOOD PANCAKE

A “must-order” for me all the time whenever i patronise Korean restaurants 👍🏼 Its a delicious crispy, savoury pancake made w green / white onions, chives & a variety of seafood such as octopus & squid. The chewy texture of the seafood & sharp taste of the green onions tastes like pure heaven 🥹 It comes w a dipping sauce at the side too for you to dip your pancakes 😋

3) TEPPAN CHICKEN GALBI (Spicy Stir Fried Chicken)

A popular Korean dish by stir-frying marinated diced chicken with potatoes, perilla leaves, cabbage, rice cake (aka “tteok”) & scallions. The marinated chicken will be cooked onto a hotplate, just like teppanyaki !! Lettuce & perilla leaves will also be served for you to make your own ssam (wrap) vegetables !! 🤤

4) KOREAN FRIED CHICKEN

Can be consumed as a meal, appetiser / an after-meal snack 🍗 Since the chicken that they use are mostly small to medium-sized, they end up being really tender & juicy 😍. What makes it better is that they fry it fresh so its extra crispy 🤭 & you can even choose what flavour you would like it to be 😆

5) TTEOKBOKKI (“Rice Cakes”)

Tteokbokkis here are a next level 😳 Huge, chewy & soft at the same time, just imagine them being like a savoury mochi !! These rice cakes are such a joy to eat 🥰 They are usually cooked & drenched in a sweet & spicy sauce (gochujang). This can be found almost anywhere & everywhere in Korea as even most street food stalls sell them 🤪

6) EOMUK BOKKEUM (“Korean Fish Cakes”)

These fish cakes are made with either ground / minced fish pastes mixed with seasonings, flour & vegetables (which explains why it is so addictive & chewy, due to its flavours & textures). They are usually served together with the soup that they are cooked in so be sure to get some of that deliciousness too !! 😜

7) GIMBAP (or “Kimbap) & RAMEN

The Korean version of sushi ?? 😂 Simple but these street food (or convenience store food) brings so much comfort, especially eating it during the winter 🥹. They can be easily found in their convenience stores but they taste as good as the ones being freshly made & sold in food stalls !!

8) GINSENG CHICKEN SOUP (“Samgyetang”)

Im pretty sure you’ve seen many of the Korean stalls here in SG selling this particular soup ☝🏻 but it can never beat the ones in Korea …

Ginseng chicken soup is a hot & steaming dish that contains a whole small chicken stuffed w glutinous rice. The ginseng flavoured meat / flavour is alot more pronounced than the ones here in SG and thus, making it really rich & delicious 💕

9) TONGIN MARKET

A very interesting concept where you can make your own bento lunch box with food from the different participating stores, purchased with the tokens (brass coins) that are provided at the market itself !!

*10 brass coins = 5000 won/pax*

*These tokens have to be exchanged with $$*

Most of the food costs around 1-2 coins, and you can pay by cash if you run out of coins / for non participating stores 👍🏼

After you fill up your lunch boxes, you can head up to level 2 where they will have rice, soup & seats provided for you to have your meal 🙌🏼

10) STEAMED MANDU (Steamed “Dumplings”)

Mark my words, the mandus here are SO filled & packed with a heaping amount of meat … & they never go stingy with it !!

11) YOGURT FLAVOURED ICE-CREAM

Never seen (or tried) such flavour when it comes to ice-creams before but over in Korea, it’s a must-try ❣️Slightly sweet yet sour, it has a consistency somewhat between a sorbet & ice-cream. And again, they are really generous with the scoop 🥹 (we only ordered 1 scoop but look !! at !! the !! amount !!)
