dominican republic travel guide!

i spent 5 months living in the dominican republic and exploring the beautiful island of hispaniola (the name of the island that haiti and the dr share!) here are my favorite places and favorite things to do!

SAMANA

samana is a GORGEOUS island! in the winter you can spot migrating whales! i visited in january and the water felt fantastic. check out the islands or stay at the dominican treehouse village!

SANTO DOMINGO

santo domingo is such a fun city! i love los tres ojos (fun fact: they filmed part of jurassic park 3 there!) and the national botanical gardens! ágora mall has a bunch of stores you can’t find in the us and it was so fun to shop around there. zona colonial is a unesco world heritage site and a great place to walk around and see the oldest continuously inhabited european-established settlement in the americas!

JARABACOA

a mountain lovers paradise! from hiking to waterfalls, horseback riding, to paragliding, this town has it all. i loved paragliding with hawk paragliding! lots of activities for nature lovers!

PUERTO PLATA

the city i lived in! visit local beaches, amphitheaters, and get some amazing empanadas. you can take the teleférico up the mountain and see a christ the redeemer statue and have the best view of the coast line (try to go when it’s not cloudy!)

CABARETE

my favorite beach on earth! a great night life and a great place to try some kiteboarding! the food is wonderful, i recommend fresh fresh, gorditos, and vagamundo!
