How do classes work on Semester at Sea?

⏱️Schedule

Semester at Sea runs on an A/B day schedule. Most people will take 12 credit hours (4 classes) and you will switch off everyday while on the ship. If you want to take 15 hours you have to get it approved beforehand. You do not have weekends or days off on the ship so you will be in class everyday. The great thing about your schedule on SAS is that you have no classes or assignments due while your in country!

📓Global Studies

The global studies course is a required course that takes place on every voyage. This class teaches you about the history and culture of the places you will be visiting and you learn about the ocean! There are 3 different professors for each category which is pretty different than typical college courses back home. This class takes place everyday regardless if its an A or B day. I recommend signing up for the 8:30am slot!

🏫Where are clases?

Classes are held pretty much wherever is available on the ship. You will have designated areas where your class will be but it will be very random! I had one class in the fancy dining restaurant and one in the theater! Sometimes you will not have a desk since they are not typical classroom settings. I had class outside one time and it was so fun! My friend even had class in the pool on the top deck!
