HI EVERYONE!! I’m so excited to share that I finally got a spot at the viral Luggage Market and managed to earn some 💵 selling my old items like clothes, shoes and even my old suitcases 🧳😱

If you haven’t been there before, imma just say, YES. IT’S REALLY THAT MESSY!!! It’s just a sea of people everywhere and everyone just selling their wares.

Here are some tips to surviving TLM:

⏰ Reach at about 10:30am onwards

We reached at 9:45am and while it gave us first dibs on customers, these customers REALLY HAD NO BOUNDARIES. They started trying to open our suitcases to look through them before we could even settle down 💀 If you go late, there’ll be a few booths already set up so you won’t be the centre of attention and get everyone crowding around you almost immediately.

💰 CASH. CASH. CASH.

We only had 2 PayNow transactions - the rest of the items were paid under cash terms. So have loads of small notes ready. We didn’t price anything in cents so it was easy just to keep track with the dollar value.

🏷️ Price items reasonably and get ready to bargain

We priced the clothes at $4 per piece, and a bundle of 3 for $10. At the last hour (5pm), we reduced it to $1 per piece and at 5:30pm, everything free. Even with these prices, a lot of them were not willing to pay it :’) so you really have to think about your goal - do you want to make money from your item, or do you just want to get rid of it? My mindset was the latter.

FYI: TLM themselves advise sellers not to go above $5 per piece!

🪑 Bring your own foldable chairs

If you have one of those foldable Decathlon chairs with a backrest, just bring them. The IKEA stools that were provided get quite uncomfortable to sit on after awhile, so we were grateful we brought our on!

👗 Refresh the clothes on your pile every once in a while

I realised how people get drawn in is through the colours of the clothes, so I would put more colourful or outstanding items at the top of the pile first to draw them in, then they’d start digging through the pile.

‼️ BONUS: Sign up for a ShopPay account and fill in your details beforehand

If you’re struggling to get a booth (and they sell out within minutes), using ShopPay will help you with checking out quickly and efficiently. It auto fills in all your info and you get your booth way faster than having to fill out your info manually.

🤔 Final Thoughts:

Overall, I was at Aperia Mall from 9:45am to 6pm. It was really like working a full day’s shift, and my body was aching immediately after :’) I still thought it was a very fun experience and while tiring, I’m thankful that Ian and my parents were there to help out at different parts of the day. I still have more clothes to sell so I’m hoping to get spots in April!!! Fingers crossed!
