Nestled along the lineup of bars, cafes and restaurants is Mio Fine Foods, a Japanese specialty restaurant that screams artisanal and craft. It’s been on my list for awhile, so I’m glad my bestie and I got to go for a quick lunch (our office is nearby)!

The Food:

🍣 Sushi Ball - $18, 3/5

Clean tasting with vinegared sushi rice, the sushi balls are perfectly bite sized with a good amount of fish to rice ratio.

🥔 Potato Nesuto Tempura - $16 | 4/5

The potatoes come in thin strips and was pretty good the first few bites, but it became too much for just two people - with it being a little too dry on its own if you don’t have it with their wasabi sauce, which almost had us in sniffles!

🍜 Hotate Salmon Zaru Soba - $29 | 1/5

The price is honestly quite crazy for what you get - soba, one raw scallop (sliced up) and a few pieces of torched raw salmon. Most of the flavour came from the onsen egg rather than the soba sauce. I’d give it a miss.

🍚 Garlic Fried Rice - $8 | 4/5

This was our favourite out of everything we ordered 😂 the rice was flavourful and not too oily, but tasty enough to trump everything there! The fried garlic gives the whole dish a nice and smoky fragrance and for $8, it’s pretty damn worth it.

💡 Ambience:

I absolutely loved the wabi-sabi inspiration and how zen the whole place felt. Light wood accents with natural light spilling in makes the place very warm and homey, only thing I wished the aircon could’ve been warmer cause I was freezing 😂 They also had a communal table with a centrepiece which I found interesting!

💯 Final Thoughts:

To be very honest, for the price that came with the food, I feel like we could’ve gotten better quality elsewhere. The flavours were a little too one-dimensional for me, but I’d admit that the plating of the dishes are 10/10 Instagram worthy. I liked how they did the sushi balls and the Potato Nesuto Tempura; which made for a pleasant eating experience.
