I went to Amsterdam recently for a work trip and extended my stay by 3 days just to discover more of the city! I thought it would be a good idea to pay for a food tour on Airbnb just to find out more about the history and cultural significance behind certain foods.
We mainly focused on the Albert Cuyp Market, so when you visit, youβll know exactly where to go!
π Dutch Herring - β¬3,30
Ah, the famous herring - you either love it, or you hate it. You may expect a really fishy odour because of how itβs prepared and how it looks, but itβs actually pretty light tasting with a buttery texture like sashimi. Have it with pickles on a toothpick, or even as a sandwich!

π₯ Poffertjes (Dutch Baby Pancakes) - β¬3,50
These little clouds of heaven are the best thing ever! Theyβre made fresh upon order and are bite sized enough you could eat 3-4 portions π± Have it the traditional Dutch way - with a slab of butter at the bottom and powdered sugar on top. Perfect warmth for cool autumn days.

π§ Stroopwafels - β¬2
If your friends have brought you snacks from Amsterdam, itβs almost always stroopwafels. But eating it freshly made is a totally different experience - the dough balls are pressed in a hot waffle press, and the skilled stroopwafel maker has to slide between the thin waffle sheet to put the syrup in between. Rudiβs at the market is the best there is - give it a try!

π Dutch Fries
The way the Dutch people like it interestingly enough, is when the fries are topped with Mayo, satay (peanut) sauce and onions! Itβs so interesting to see Indonesian cuisine integrated into Dutch food ππ€€
π Pietersma Snacks (One of the best in Amsterdam!)
Thatβs all for food! The Albert Cuyp Market is a really cool market in Amsterdam that not only sells food, but also flowers, groceries like fruits and raw fish, and also various stuff to get your shopping done like souvenirs, bags and clothes! Be sure to save 2-3 hours to walk around the market and try all the yummy food π€©π³π±
