Hype Train: Is Omote worth queuing for?

My first food post here on Lemon8!!! Actually, food is more of my niche and I run a food Instagram account hehe. So here goes!!

For the uninitiated, Omoté is a modern Japanese gastrobar that serves up Japanese rice bowls, meaty sides and sushi. They have a traditional Japanese menu of chirashi don, yakiniku, nigiri sushi.

Went on a date and here’s what we ordered!

1. Upsized Chirashi, $19.90 (3/5)

What I really liked was the huge portions of fish and seafood, and they were very fresh too, so it was pleasant to eat. However, I found their house-made sauce a little too sweet, and since they drenched the fish in it, it started to become too much as we ate through it. Still, there isn’t a lot that can go wrong with a chirashi don.

2. Garlic Yakiniku Don, $19.80 (5/5)

This really surprised us! The crispy garlic chips and savoury marinated yakiniku beef was just a huge explosion in our mouths. The egg came just slightly watery, but this was hands down, the best dish of the night 🙌

3. Onion Kurobuta Salada, $13.80 (3/5)

Not really sure what we were expecting but it certainly wasn’t sliced pork belly heaped onto lettuce 😂 This was refreshing, and I enjoyed the huge portion for the price. The leek came a little too raw but the fried onions were very tasty!

It was still a great night and we had fun trying the new food combinations! Omoté has a ton of other food items on their menu which are worth a try at least once. So I guess… their Chirashi is worth the hype for its price and portion, but it was the cooked meals that did it for me 😋
