hi guys and aspiring elle woods 👩‍⚖️

i think a few people are curious on reading #law and in my personal humble opinion, i will 99% recommend it! depending on what your personal strengths are, if you have some sort of interest in being a corporate shrimp, this may be the job for you…

yes even to the litigation peeps because as a junior lawyer, you will probably be at your desk researching a whole lot / reading and drafting submissions so being a corporate girlie applies too!!

but i think! law is a good degree because:

1️⃣ a guaranteed path

- if you like a structured way of studying aka JC style singaporean mugger way of things, law would probably suit your studying methods. year 1 and 2 are compulsory topics which aka is a rerun of JC unlike in other courses where you gotta start bidding for your own electives already! if you are ok with not having the freedom, this is good

- even when you start practice, your batchmates and you start from ground 0 tgthr aka as trainees. then you increase pqe and there us a lock step increment which is very stable (if you don’t fk up)

2️⃣ venturing to other careers

- with a law degree, i think you can do anything you want rlly. ofc not a verrry specialised career, but i think it’s a good launch pad for you to start somewhere in the corporate world. you could go be an inhouse counsel, do compliance work, work in the govt sector, even consulting (if you beat the comp)

3️⃣ abroad opps

- you could be dual qualified if you have an interest to study another country’s laws / wanna go to an intl firm. i’m not sure if you could go overseas at an early start in your career, but why not if you have the ambition and the skills i.e. maybe only the first class queens could do it but never say never

- the inhouse team in my current workplace is very diverse - there are lawyers from around the globe and i don’t see why the sg lawyers can’t go to a branch overseas once you are senior enough!

- for me, erm the closest overseas experience was exchange and i loved it 🤣

just my 2 cents worth but lmk what are your thoughts on studying law! #SocialDiscussion #study #university #lawschool
