Hormonal birth control and sex drive

Being put on birth control can be a big decision. One that usually requires research and conversations with your provider. However, most girls go on birth control at a younger age. When I was put on it, I had trust in my provider to tell me all the side effects; which is not always reliable. They definitely do their best, but I was never educated on the side effect of a decreased sex drive.

Fast forward to being on the pill for a while and experiencing this side effect. It can be isolating and embarrassing to try to figure out. After researching more, I realized one of the many side effects of hormonal pills was in fact a decrease in sex drive.

I work in women’s health and have made a very conscious effort in educating women on these hidden side effects of birth control. I’m not here to hate on birth control or providers. I simply hope to spread more awareness. I’m also curious, did anyone else not know about this side effect? Have you experienced it?
