I was shocked by how much jet-lag I had in when I first arrived in Japan. I really thought because I arrived at night I could just go to sleep and would wake up at 7:00 am like normal but for the first 4 days were up before sunrise. At first we were like okay well we will get dressed, head to breakfast as soon as it opens and head for the day but as soon we walked out the door we realized nothing was open. We were actually shocked when we couldn’t even find a coffee shop. Obviously Starbucks was open but we were really trying to have something more authentic. Now don’t get me wrong there were people heading to work but they definitely worked in a more corporate setting than say a restaurant.

The funny thing about jetlag is that your stomach doesn’t realize you’re in a different timezone so by 9:00 am I was ready for lunch. All I wanted was something to do a bowl of ramen. Instead we stroller outside a few shrines and in parks. Most of the historical places are open by 9:00 but everything is mostly 11:00 am. I’m actually very surprised that I didn’t know Japan opens later. I have never heard of another traveler talking about it but I must not be the only one bored at 8:00 am. So this is my long winded way of saying that when your up at sunrise with nothing to do head to the Tsukji fish market you will be shocked by the food you can eat that early in the day and hey you might even fall in love with a pair of chopsticks like I did. Oh yeah the shops are great too!!! Especially if you like cooking wear.
