I’m all for thrifting and i love the thrill of finding a cute piece at a steal, but Japan thrift shops (or vintage stores to be exact) can get so ridiculously pricey for second hand goods 😭
I was on a hunt for affordable thrift stores and wanna share my best discoveries so far!
★ BOOK OFF NAMBA — Osaka
• pieces are mostly $20 and under (unbranded)
• mens clothing can be a little more pricey, avg $30
• has a branded section but expect higher prices
• huge selection of styles from streetwear to pinterest fashion, my absolute favs are the skirts and pants section <3
• wide selection of shoes, accessories like belts and shades and jewelry, and for great prices
• very large space and well organized, can really spend a long time sifting here!
• spent ~$36 here for 3 skirts, 1 necklace, 1 ring, 1 belt + $48 for tory burch knee high boots
• even has a whole floor dedicated to anime figures, games and cards
★ 2ND STREET — Osaka/Kyoto
• SO many outlets everywhere, you can just hop in for a quick browse whenever you see one bc the space isn’t very big!
• Recommend visiting Kyoto’s outlet near Nishiki Market: has better and more affordable selection vs Osaka
• bigger selection of branded pieces (mainly streetwear brands like carhartt, supreme, bape etc.)
• have a small section of cheaper, unbranded pieces which i mainly focus on, usually $20 and under
• bought a $5 pleated maxi skirt from the kyoto outlet
📍 just search ‘2nd street’ on google maps to find any outlet near you <3
★ WEGO VINTAGE — Osaka
• another spot with several outlets around Japan
• mainly streetwear styles, lots of tees, outerwears, cargos, jeans etc.
• most pieces are on the higher end, avg $30-$40
• Osaka outlet we visited had a cheaper section at the back, $20 and under
• bought $16 Levi’s jorts from the cheaper section!
happy thrifting!!! You can see my thrift haul on my lemon8 post (it’s my best haul fr) to get a good gauge of the pieces you might find ;-)
