Seoul travels | is Gentle Monster worth it? 🕶️

Got my first pair of designer shades ever from Gentle Monster in Korea and I wanna quickly share my honest review, shopping experience, and tips!

𝙒𝙃𝙀𝙍𝙀 𝙏𝙊 𝘽𝙐𝙔

I recommend visiting both the flagship outlet and Haus Dosan bc it’s such a cool experience, as though you’re shopping in a museum exhibit! Visiting 2 outlets also allows you to potentially get pieces that might have been out of stock at the other location.

𝙒𝙃𝘼𝙏 𝙄 𝘽𝙊𝙐𝙂𝙃𝙏 + 𝙃𝙊𝙒 𝙈𝙐𝘾𝙃

I wanted to go for a simpler silhouette since this was a relatively big purchase and I wanted to make sure it matched all my looks! I went for the Hezier 01 model that retailed for 279,000KRW (~$285SGD) excluding tax refunds. It retails for $395 in SG so that’s a $111 difference 😀

𝙀𝙓𝙋𝙀𝙍𝙄𝙀𝙉𝘾𝙀 + 𝙏𝙄𝙋𝙎

• shopping at the physical stores in Korea can be overwhelming bc they have so many similar silhouettes to choose from. Narrow down your choices first before heading over!

• TRY IT ON. I saw so many shades with almost the same shape as Hezier and realised that they all fit slightly different. Some were too big for my face and some couldn’t provide the nose support since my nose bridge is p flat.

• following above point, if you’re getting a friend to help you purchase, pls try the shades you want in the GM outlet in SG first!

• didn’t know this (sry am noob) but they’ll actly help to re-shape and fit the shades to your size after purchase!

• packaging is minimal and nothing out of the ordinary tbh.

𝙄𝙎 𝙄𝙏 𝙒𝙊𝙍𝙏𝙃 𝙄𝙏

As a cheap shades girly, i genuinely wanted to invest in a quality pair that fit me well since my cheap shades were usually ill-fitting and didn’t provide the sun protection i needed.

Fashion is a big part of my life, so I had to make sure it was stylish. A part of me chose GM bc of the novelty of the brand and how chic the designs are! I’d have gone with a more unique design like the visor shades bc it’s so cool but I didnt know if it would go with the different styles of my fits 😫 The GM shades feels lux and it rly does elevate the overall look!

I feel that GM is a fun designer shades brand, but nothing too crazy to get hyped over. The price is worth it in Korea but def not Singapore 👀 After all, it is a luxury purchase so practicality is kinda thrown out of the window here.

If you’re looking to pamper yourself and wanna make your fits look more elevated, then go for it! If you’re shopping for shades solely for practicality, i’d suggest buying from cheaper brands.
