3 things i wish i knew as a breastfeeding mama 🤱🏻

ahhhhh. if i had a dollar for every breastfeeding question i googled, id be rich. breastfeeding is a pillar of motherhood. its been around since babies have been apart of this world. yet we mamas have so many questions about it.

in the beginning of your breastfeeding journey EVERYTHING is new. your body is changing, your baby is hungry and you’re both learning together. your husband technically cant help you (unless you pump) it can be very isolating and very rewarding all at the same time.

breastfeeding is probably one of my favorite things on motherhood. im incredibly proud of my body and how its helped build another. i look at my son in awe that my body built his.

still i am learning about breastfeeding each day. i am now 7.5 months into exclusively breastfeeding my little babe. so it’s definitely second nature to me now.

the first question mamas have is what is colostrum? its the liquid gold that give baby a huge nutritional boost and is so important for baby. its PACKED full of goodness. its the first type of milk you will get before you get your mature traditional white milk. you can save some and give to baby if they get sick for an added boost in protection.

nursing in the car isnt as fun as it sound. still at 7 months my babe still feeds every 2 hours, but in those early days they are always eating. as you navigate those early days and are adventuring outside of the house prepare for car feeds. bring your partner, bring extra water, have your nursing pillow in the car. make yourself feel comfortable, because when baby is still small nursing session usually take 30 minutes!

lastly, if you go on vacation bring your pumps🥲

of you dont you’ll have to hand express into a cup at 6am because your engorged… the. rush to pick up your target pickup order. i was 6 weeks pp and it was horrible. i was sooooo full because baby slept through the night. so its okay to over pack!! you dont want to under pack like me🙊
