Teaching manners to little ones is a challenge! Kids aren’t born with them and even some adults still haven’t learned them🫠😂 We work hard to make sure our kid’s know their manners and how to treat others. We start as soon as we can even if it’s just please and thank you.

Please and thank you is a must, sometimes we have to remind them, but it’s almost automatic for our almost 4 year old now! We encourage our 19 month old to say it as frequently as possible, sometimes he gets a bit shy but we try nonetheless.

Before entering anywhere we go over basic manners. To say please and thank you, say excuse me, nice hands, nice words, walking feed, etc. This resonates with my son well, even though there are times we have to remind him, it’s important that we continue to go over these manners until they’re automatic!

Teaching them to say excuse me when they need to interrupt adults talking has been so hard! Children don’t want to have to wait to say what’s on their mind and keeping our boys from calling for us over and over has been a challenge but so important. They need to understand that when adults (or anyone) are talking they can’t just interpret, but to wait their turn.

I’ll always say this: children are sponges and they learn from watching! We are the model so we have to be the ones to show them how to be a good listener. We can easily show this by being a good listener to them. We encourage good listening ears and display how we listen to others.

We always encourage our boys to share with others. Children don’t comprehend sharing before the age of 4, so we try to introduce it to them early. It’s always fun if everyone can share and it can also help children learn and understand empathy!

Most importantly, we reward our boys with praise. When we see them being a good listener, when they say excuse me, when they say please and thank you, it’s going to get called out and given a high five over it. Learning manners is hard, remembering what to do when is even harder, especially for little ones!

How do you encourage your kids to use their manners?🥰
