Guatemala is one of those countries that I will never forget. I stayed here for a month and tracked my expenses for the first two weeks. If you are coming from new york, Guatemala will seem very affordable to you. While I was there, I thought it was comparable to Mexico. Definitely not as cheap as I thought but still much cheaper than new york. In total I spent $734 for the 2 weeks that I tracked. Here is a breakdown of how much I spent and on what:
Accomodation: $188. I stayed in hostels the whole time here, which helped to make this cost super affordable. I was paying as little as $11 f=per night for hostels The great thing about guatemala is that accommodation is typically cheaper vs other countries
Activities: $171. Guatemala is filled with different activities that you can do. From hiking a volcano, to swimming in lake atitlan, there are endless things you can do . I did a lot of group tours, and the total price was stll not super expensive
Transportation: $131. The thing about Guatemala is that flying from city to city is not really feasible. Most of the transportation is via shuttle or car. We took so many shuttles from and to Antigua, but still it wasn’t very expensive. Shuttles were around $30 per leg
Food: $191, For food, I usually ate out. You can find street food here, but not that much. The good thing is that meals are not too expensive. You can find a good meal for about $8 - obviously depends on the restaurant you go to
Other: $53 - these costs include manicures, and other random things like souvenirs that I bought
