Greek Food 🍋

Had an amazing holiday in Athens, Greece - made even better by the amount of good food that we have eaten. There’s something about the food in European countries that hit different.

Must be the anti-GMO stuff.

- but even stuff like tomatoes taste different there :,) -

here’s a list of the places that we have eaten at in Greece:

📍Address: Nancy’s Sweet Home

Must Must Must!!! Eat the chocolate cake in this place. It’s a slab of chocolate sponge drenched in a soup of rich chocolate. Mr M ordered a panna cotta and it came in a serving bigger than his fist.

💰 Price: 5-7 Euros

📍Address: Atlantikos

Come here for fresh seafood! Need I say more? It’s really ingredients at its finest, it’s only barely seasoned with good olive oil and a sprinkling of salt and herbs. The fish were so fresh, there was barely a hint of fishiness. We ate here twice.

💰 Price: 10-15 Euros for a main. Expected damage is around 20-30 Euros with a drink!

📍Address: Barbounaki

I’ve been hearing about the barbounaki fish and how it’s a must have. This restaurant is called just that. But when we went, it’s sold out :,) note to come early if you want to have more choice! But the other stuff we had - the octopus, the boque fish. Equally amazing and fresh. This place is a bit more pricey.

💰 Price: 20-30 Euros for a main. Our total bill came to around 80 Euros. (We had 1 starter, 1 side, 2 mains plus wine!)

This place is a local dairy shop. I saw this off Google where people had yoghurt in slabs. And I love sweet things, so I had to drag Mr M here hurhur. It’s right smack next to the subway, but it’s in a more shady neighbourhood - just to let you know. However, we had some amazing local honey with yoghurt. Remember to pick the type of yoghurt - Greek people also have sheep yoghurt

📍Address: Zisis, Fish in a Cone

Right off the main square near the old church - it’s in an incredibly accessible location. I’ve been seeing it off vlogs and blogs. Somehow, the squid is better in Greece, so we had to get that and ofc, it didn’t disappoint. Fried fish and grilled fish is amazing here!

📍Address: Tartufo Cucina Italiana

We just happened to chance upon this restaurant while going back to our hotel. At this point we were seafood-ed out and had to have another type of cuisine. Oh my, I had the shrimp aglio olio and man, was it amazing. The garlicky buttered taste of the pasta - ugh so lovely. The shrimps too - even better! If you have run out of local food options and would like a slightly fancier dinner, this is the place to go.

And the last,

📍Address: Lukumades

Let’s end off with dessert! This is a type of Greek doughnut. But it’s really just doughnut balls. But you have to try this - it’s freshly fried to order! And oh my, the toppings are out of this world. I got mine freshly fried, with a wonderful hard shell outside and a soft and fluffy interior. I got it in the original flavor, which is Greek honey with cinnamon. Mind you - this country treats their desserts seriously. My portion of lukumades was swimming in honey. Thy also offer other flavors such as white chocolate, bueno, pistachio cream.

💰 Price: 5-10 Euros (it’s more if you order the customised ones with more toppings and ice cream)
