Without a doubt, the best thing I’ve done for myself this 2023 is quit excessive drinking. My head feels clearer, my gym gains show up faster, I feel more energetic (and less depressed) throughout the week and I don’t have to deal with hangovers 🥴😖 This journey wasn’t an easy one though: it brought to light how inextricably linked alcohol is with social activities, and I sometimes found myself needing to explain why I just didn’t want to drink anymore to people around me. It took a little creativity (and a lot of TikTok) to find some non-alcohol activities that I think would be fun to do with friends!
1. ART JAMMING AT FORT CANNING 🎨🖼️
❌ You don’t have to pay a premium to sign up for art jamming - just go to ArtFriend, get 2 canvases (around $20 total) and whatever paint you have and go crazy. You can set prompts for your friend and yourself, let your creativity take you on this one!
2. THEMED FOOD NIGHTS 🌮🥗🥙
Originally inspired by themed cocktail nights, I thought of creating themed food nights! Plus, baking or preparing food is a great way to bond with friends and get a little messy in the kitchen.
3. ATTEND A SOUNDBATH 🎶
If you’re looking for something to do at night that doesn’t include drinking, try going for a soundbath. Not only does it help you sleep better after, it’s a great way to tap into your subconscious and learn more about each other.
4. EXPLORE SINGAPORE LIKE A TOURIST
Walk around a random neighbourhood. Walk into any shop that looks interesting.
