health is something so intricately linked to the choices that we make around food - and every day weβre given many MANY opportunities to make good choices! β¨ here are some habits iβve developed over time surrounding food that i think could help you too:
1. choose less processed options π₯π½π₯
less processed foods are likely to be lower in calories, and not filled with additives and chemicals that are potentially bad for you. there arenβt any studies available for the long term effects of certain food additives cause itβs extremely difficult to conduct controlled trials, but it doesnβt seem too far off to draw a correlation between processed food consumption and overall health.
2. choose lower calorie options for alcohol π·π₯π»
i will admit iβm guilty of this π«’ alcohol is probably the sneakiest way calories creep into your diet, a long island iced tea can contain as high as 750 calories π€― and empty calories at that! doesnβt help that most drinks are also laden with sugar. iβm not saying to cut off alcohol entirely - but to choose lower calorie options like a classic g&t or vodka soda β¨
3. make dessert a social activity β¨
this sounds SUPER counter-intuitive - but i love love love sharing treats with friends. i normally wouldnβt even go out for waffles and ice cream myself but when i do have the feels for it i ALWAYS have it with friends! itβs just so much more fulfilling to share that little pocket of time together and you get more variety with your treats too.
4. satisfy your sweet tooth with healthier options πππ
if youβre a natural sweet tooth you can choose healthier options to satisfy your cravings! i for example like to freeze my grapes so they taste like candy, or buy aΓ§ai packets as a substitute to ice cream. try it!
