College isn’t a Scam

There are plenty of reasons why most individuals feel the college and university system of America is a scam. The most prevalent being the overarching debt of student loans and envisioned outcome after graduation.

First of all, the school system already pushes kids into college ideology throughout high school with SATs, ACTS, extracurricular programs and clubs etc. You MUST attend the top universities if you want to succeed. This is not true. There are plenty of amazing universities and colleges in your state that will give you qualified professors and education. Furthermore, community college AND trade school are still beautiful options with less cost and length.

Student loan debt is a fair reason why one would not want to attend. Sometimes you feel as if college doesn’t give you a high ROI (return on investment) for the money you are sacrificing. Though, we have to be diligent and apply ourselves into degrees that will provide for us financially and satisfy market demands. Certain pathways have virtually low job opportunities and less earnings overtime. Plus, financial literacy is an avenue you must explore on your own to better arm yourself with knowledge.

Lastly, people feel as if college doesn’t provide undergrad or graduates with experience or skills that employers will be seeking. This is false. You can access internships throughout college as early as Sophomore classification. Beyond that, you can still work during college and you have access to plenty of resume constructions, career fairs, internship fairs, networking events, etc to help properly guide you on your way towards careers.

At the end of the day, if you think college is a scam. You’re just not ready to attend. Which is fine, because all truths are not meant for all rooms. Go with what you feel is best and flourish. Do your own research and live the life the way you want.
