10 TRANSFERABLE SKILLS TO ADD TO YOUR RESUME

As people who work in care professions, you wear many hats in your day-to-day at work. While you’re probably not being fairly compensated for all of that job creep, the skills you gain from doing your job plus 15 other ones can get you paid in other industries. If you’re looking to transition out of teaching or another care profession, check out these ten transferable skills to add to your resume!

🌟 interpersonal communication - you spend a lot of your day working 1-on-1 with students, clients, customers, or co-workers.

🌟management - you manage a variety of tasks and likely oversee their operations and success. 

🌟conflict management - every single day you are putting out little fires everywhere, and oftentimes, making the situation much better than it originally was just through using your empathy, communication skills, and ultimately, through managing conflict.

🌟public speaking - when you aren’t interpersonally communicating, you’re speaking and/or presenting to large audiences. 

🌟 organization - in order to successfully perform your job, and all of the other jobs you do on top if it, you stay organized. Your time management is on point, and you are motivated to get things done.

🌟relationship building - an amazing part of being in care professions is the ability to build relationships; it’s really a huge reason we get into these professions to begin with! Regardless, it is a valuable skill, that translates so well into other professions.

🌟collaboration - working independently is important, but so is the ability to collaborate and work as an active member of a team. You are a rockstar at both.

🌟data entry - you use data to guide many of your team’s decisions and plans. That means you enter data, record data, read data, and act on it.

🌟project management - you manage multiple projects at a time, as a care professional. You see it as your normal, other industries see it as project management. It is a valuable skill to have!

🌟adaptability - most of all, you are able to pivot on a dime, change direction, and not miss meeting your goal or objective. You are adaptable in the workplace, and can think on your feet.
