Hi friends!! I’ve been doing Pilates for a little over 4 months now. Just some background on myself: I played volleyball, basketball, and softball for 15 years, including at the collegiate level. Pilates has been a new way for me to stay active, along with weightlifting and playing in rec leagues.
PROS:
🤎 Holds me accountable.
Pilates requires me to schedule classes in advance and follow through with them (unless I want to be charged). This helps me not make excuses!
🤎 Can go with friends.
Pilates is SO FUN with friends!!! Some clubs allow you to bring a guest for free, or you can convince your friends to get memberships with you and hold each other accountable. There is nothing like holding a plank and looking over at one of your friends and cracking up.
🤎 Excuse to buy cute clothes.
I was never a fan of workout sets but Pilates has changed my mind! The workout sections at the store are irresistible now! There’s nothing better than feeling confident in a cute outfit after a good workout.
🤎 Takes care of your body!!!
At the end of the day, Pilates is self-care! We only get one body so we must cherish it. If you haven’t found a form of exercise you enjoy, I would recommend trying Pilates!
CONS:
🤎 Expensive.
Pilates is not the cheapest membership you’ll find. My monthly fee does hurt my bank account a little bit lol.
🤎 Hard to get into classes.
For my Pilates gym, you sign up in advance. Most of the time, I am waitlisted. I’d say I get into about 50% of the classes I sign up for, which is a bummer but I just try to prioritize signing up early and for multiple at a time.
🤎Slow-paced exercise.
As a former athlete, I’m used to intense movements, workouts, and fitness. This was a BIG change in pace for me. Although, I have adapted and have learned to really focus on my movements.
Feel free to share your thoughts and experiences about Pilates! I’d love to talk or answer any questions :)
