Falling in Love with Van Leeuwen’s 🍂 🍦

My sister and I spent the day in Boulder, Colorado today! There's a lot to do in town (I'm particularly partial to the Boulder Bookstore and Apocalypse thrift on Pearl Street). But, we're here to talk about something very important: ice cream! Are these flavors the essence of autumn?! Let's find out.

Before we begin, I am very lactose intolerant. So, all comments on the non-vegan flavors come from my sister who is blessed with good digestion. Now, on to the new flavors.

First up, the Pumpkin Pie cheesecake. This was sold out but the very kind woman behind the counter scraped together a taster for my sister to try. She said it was rich and creamy and very pumpkin-y, like a slice of (you guessed it) pumpkin cheesecake.

Next, the Cranberry Crumble. This would be my JAM! No pun intended. I'm sad I was deprived of this goodness because my go-to flavor at Van Leeuwen's is the vegan Strawberry Shortcake and this was basically a cranberry version of that, according to my sister. The tartness of the cranberry cuts the sweet, creamy vanilla nicely so if you're not a big sweets person I say go for this one.

Last, but certainly not least, the flavor I actually got to eat! I was bummed at first that the only flavor I could have was the one I was least jazzed about. But, I was wrong! The vegan sweet potato marshmallow was super tasty. It wasn't as sweet as I expected, though it is very rich, sharing a small was more than enough for me. The marshmallow bits weren't hard like they can often be in Rocky Road, instead Van Leeuwen's used a foamy marshmallow fluff that was really silky and fun to eat! Highly recommend for vegans and dairy eaters alike!
