Drop sets are a favorite of mine and I want to cover all the basics with you :)
🤔 What is a drop set? A drop set is an advanced resistance training technique that focuses on repeatedly training a muscle until failure. The goal is to gain more muscle than you would doing conventional sets!
⏰ When should you do a drop set? I recommend doing a drop set during your LAST set of an exercise. You want to perform a drop set once you have reached failure with a weight/if you are working to fatigue.
🤷♀️ How do I do a drop set? Perform your exercise with your working weight. Once you hit failure with the weight grab a lighter weight or use your body weight and continue to do reps until you reach failure/fatigue.
A few examples!
1) As shown here, I did 4 sets of dumbbell sumo squats. During my 4th and final set I completed as many reps as possible with the weight (going until failure while being able to keep your form). Once I hit that point, I put down the weight and completed my drop set, which was another 6 reps.
2) For bicep curls, say I was doing 3 sets. On my 3rd and final set, I would do my reps with 25lbs and then once I could not get anymore with the 25lbs I would grab 15lbs and continue with the same bicep curls until I reached fatigue/failure!
