Hello lemon8! This is my first post here so let me get into my review!
Meokja is a newly opened restaurant, originally a homebased muslim-owned business! The chef is a korean muslim revert, hence the food here is for sure authentic!
There are many authentic korean restaurants in singapore, but itโs harder to find halal ones, hence this is especially convenient for fellow muslims who crave for korean food ๐ซถ๐ผ
โ kimchi fried rice ($11)
The portion may not look huge but I had trouble finishing it as it was really a lot! There was a generous amount of kimchi and topped with seaweed. Itโs a main thatโs worth trying especially if you like kimchi! However, i personally find the kimchi taste very strong (I am not the biggest fan of fermented food, so this is subjective!) so I had to eat it with the eomuk soup! But otherwise, it is still a nice dish!
โ yangnyeom fried chicken ($7.50)
This was my friendโs food but Iโve tried it here with my mom before. It has a bit of spice to it and is nice and crispy. I feel like the amount is quite worth the $7, making it a good side dish to share! it complemented the fried rice ๐ซถ๐ผ
โ eomuk ($7)
Eomuk is essentially fishcake, and is a popular street food in korea. It is definitely something comforting to eat especially in cold weather. It comes in a bowl of 3 fishcakes with soup. i like fishcake so this definitely was nice to me, but what really won me over was the soup, it was so flavourful and I really liked it. Iโd suggest to buy this if you ever visit!
tip: this place gets pretty crowded during dinner time (i am not too sure about lunch) and I had to queue for quite long with my friend, hence iโd recommend to make a reservation on their website before making a visit
I enjoyed my meals here and recommend it to people who are looking for authentic korean food! do support meokja as they expand their homebased business into a restaurant ๐ฒ
