i love love loooooove croissants and all its different fancy variations (cruffin, cronut, croll, and the list goes on) π€£ itβs truly a guilty pleasure for me.
so on my recent one day JB trip, i decided to pop by Seven Oaks after recommendation from a friend β apparently they had a huge variety of croissants and βcrombolinisβ (essentially croll, i think only msians call it that) that i HAD to try.
however, when i visited on a wednesday evening, they only had a few flavours left so bare that in mind!
i ended up having dinner here, so i ordered a few main dishes along with the crombolinis and cruffins, most i took to-go. hereβs my honest review of Seven Oaks ππ»
1οΈβ£ SPARKLING CUCUMBER AND WATERMELON β RM15
4/5 βοΈ
the first thing to arrive, i was pleasantly surprised by the taste of cucumber in this one! really refreshing not too sweet. i wouldβve given it 5 stars had it not been nearly the same price as one of the main dishes π
2οΈβ£ CHICKEN AND WAFFLES β RM30
3/5 βοΈ
i ordered this dish thinking it was a regular chicken and waffles (with honey) and didnβt pay attention to the picture (there was no description on the menu) so i didnβt realise this came with salted egg sauce π it was really nice for a few bites, the waffles werenβt soggy and chicken crispy, but quickly became sickly and jelak because of the sauce. i really wanted to like this more π
3οΈβ£ STIR FRIED BASIL CHICKEN CREAM PASTA β RM21
4.5/5 βοΈ
this was the star of the show!!! yβall know i loooove pad kra pao so you know i had to order this. it had a strong basil flavour and the creamy sauce surprisingly paired quite nicely with it π€― if only it was a little more spicy (they only gave cut normal chillies), maybe if the spice was worked into the sauce itself instead of being just sprinkled on top, it wouldβve been a 5 star for sure.
4οΈβ£ HOJICHA AND MILK CHOCOLATE CROMBOLINI β RM9
2/5 βοΈ
i feel like this one had so much potential, and it fell flat. like, real flat. their pastries was the whole reason why i even visited the place, but somehow it was the most disappointing part of the meal π it was served cold, and i asked them to reheat it for me, yet when i received it again it was still cold and hard :( flavour was alright, nothing mind blowing.
i tabao-ed a few more pastries for home and i donβt have crazy things to say about them so i shall skip them in the review π the only decent one was the only savoury pastry i got β it was a garlic and cheese flavour i forgot the name exactly but it was GOOD heated up in my air fryer the next day.
β VERDICTβ
Seven Oaks gets a meh/5 for me. i would probably go back only to try their mango sticky rice crombolini which apparently is amazing (it was sold out that day) and of course the pad kra pao pasta, but i wouldnβt go back specially for them, especially if thereβs a jam πseems like they do their savouries better than their sweets! π
i will say, pricing wise they are very reasonably priced. RM21 for the pasta and RM9 for a crombolini is on the cheaper end, even for JB cafe standards ππ»
if youβve tried out their other menu items before, which was your fav? did i just pick the wrong ones? let me know! π₯²
