ah, bangkok – the land of smiles, yummy food and endless shopping! 🇹🇭💛

it took me a while to decide where i should go for my first /real/ trip post covid and i just knew BKK had to be my first stop! 🥹

now, there are plenty of nightmarkets in BKK, but these are the two i visited and can give my honest opinions on! 👍🏻

— here are my two contenders:

1️⃣ Jodd Fairs Night Market 🎡

newly opened night market that moved from the old ratchada train market site at esplanade

2️⃣ One Ratchada Train Night Market 🚂

even more newly opened night market that opened at the site of the old ratchada train market at esplanade.

❕both nightmarkets are only a train station apart from each other (rama9 and thailand cultural centre)❕

— here’s a list of pros and cons:

1️⃣ Jodd Fairs 🎡

✔️ PROS:

• convenient location at rama9, next to mrt, nearish to the popular tourist district like pratunam

• a lot of food options and sit down options as well

• very touristy (which can be a bad thing too, but mainly you won’t face a language barrier)

• some cheap shopping deals if you look hard (100baht denim shorts!)

• a lot of dessert options for the sweet-tooths!

❌ CONS:

• quite crowded and squeezy (and i went on a tuesday night!)

• queues for some sit down food options were insane (e.g the meat mountain store)

• again, very touristy, so don’t expect local prices

• have to be very wary due to pick pockets because it’s so crowded

2️⃣ One Ratchada 🚂

✔️ PROS:

• conveniently located next to esplanade mall (thai cultural centre mrt)

• not crowded at all, walkways are much more spacious

• similar foods to jodd fairs with less queue, a lot more sit down food options

• feels a little more local and less touristy (but no language barrier)

❌ CONS:

• similar foods to jodd fairs, meaning if you go to jodd fairs first you will find a lot of repeats.

• shopping is a little more expensive than joddfairs (surprisingly!) expect bkk mall prices.

after weighing the pros and cons, in my opinion, if you have the time (and belly) to go to both places, you can, as they are really close to each other.

however if you do, i recommend going to one ratchada first! i wanted to get the famous potato cheese corn dish at jodd fairs but the queue was so long that i gave up, but when i went to one ratchada there was no queue at all! 🤭 i also recommend holy shrimp at one ratchada (crazy shrimp at jodd fairs was baaaaaad.)

if i could only choose one, however, i would probably go to one ratchada solely due to the fact that it’s not crowded (my anxiety was PEAKING when i had to hold my bag tightly 🤣).

have you been to either, or are you planning to go to BKK soon? let me know, i wanna hear your recommendations! 🫶🏻
