All About My NetGalley + How to Optimize YOURS!

First things first, I’m no NetGalley wizard. But I dedicate about 2-3 hours per week learning, using, and browsing it. This is how I’ve formed some of my first relationships with publishers and have gotten on their influencer lists. I’m a small book influencer, but don’t feel discouraged because a large following isn’t everything.

On my profile, I have my name, my main channel for reviewing (YouTube) as well as my ratio (52%). This is important to publishers. The idea number is 85% or higher. It’s hard to get to because it takes into account the books you have in your queue. Since I like I review books no earlier than a month prior to their release, I have to pay attention to these details. You should to!

In my bio, I’m approachable and down to earth. Honesty is the best policy here because it’s your reputation as a reviewer. I state what genres I like to read them move to the most important part: my platforms. In this section, I state which platforms I use (from my post to least preferred) then include the current subscriber count.

About every couple of weeks, I’ll go in and update this section. The activity shows that you’re aware that publishers will check this or just show that you’re around on the site. Finally, I talk about my audience and why I like reviewing books. This brings the real world into it and how I connect with my audience.

Every month, I try to review 3-5 ARCs on NetGalley. I publish the reviews on NetGalley (with links to wherever else I post the review), Goodreads, Instagram, Lemon8, YouTube, and TikTok. These reviews are in-depth and really look at character development, plot, writing style, and overall vibes.

Another note, when publishing your reviews wherever you put them, include a disclaimer. Mine usually says “Thank you to X publisher and X author for allowing me to be an early reader of X book title. All opinions expressed in this/my review are my own. X book title by X author is scheduled for release on MONTH DAY, YEAR.”
