Kerak Castle is a monumental Crusader-era castle located in Jordan, about 140 kilometers south of the capital city of Amman. It was built by the Crusaders in the 12th century A.D., on a hilltop overlooking the Dead Sea valley. The castle played a strategic role during the Crusades, serving as a key stronghold that protected the eastern flank of the Crusader kingdoms and guarded the main caravan and trade routes between Syria and Egypt. The castle also witnessed numerous battles and sieges over the centuries, as it changed hands between various Muslim and Christian factions. Today, Kerak Castle is a popular tourist destination and is considered to be one of the best-preserved Crusader castles in the Middle East.
