I have used this hack EVERY YEAR without fail.

However, I would strongly suggest painter’s tape for best results, especially if you didn’t laminate your letters.

I wasn’t planning on adding the black border on each of the letters, just the ones on the Lego’s. But then I decided I liked them the best, so I did it for all! I’m really excited about how it turned out!
