Your ID/contractor will hate you

You can't really count on your ID or contractor to find mistakes with the renovation. You have to be diligent and check for mistakes yourself!

As our renovation was happening, we compiled a long list of defects that we wanted our interior designer and contractors to fix before the hand over. You should not do a defects check all at once but slowly check the contractors work as they complete parts of the home renovation.

Some defects we found:

- Electrical sockets and switches were not installed leveled.

- Broken electrical fittings.

- Wrongly fabricated carpentry.

- Carpentry drawers are not smooth; they don't open straight.

- Mirrors are warped.

- Paint is missing.

- Silicone is missing.

- Big scuffs on the flooring.

And this isn't the full list. Our rectification list had 70 items that we wanted our interior designer to fix!

The best tip I have for you is to keep a Google document or Notion page that you share with your ID/contractor so that you don't forget what needs to get fixed before the handover. We found it very annoying to keep reminding our ID that we already asked for something to get fixed. Keeping the items all in one place helped us to be more organized. 💪
