Three Regrets as a Spa Owner

I opened my business in September of 2019. I hit the ground running, grew like crazy in the first 6 months and truly learned from my mistakes. Here are my 3 regrets as a Spa Owner.

1️⃣ Not Hiring Right Away: As an owner of a GROWING business, your to-do list will grow every single day and you will never have very task checked off. By having employees right away to do tasks (administrative, seeing clients), you can step away from the phones and the treatment room to tend to the business and make sure it is healthy and steadily growing. It is hard to take a step back from the face-to-face, but your business needs this. We cannot do it all ourselves!

2️⃣ Communication Boundaries: When I first opened my business, I would reply to text messages at any hour of the night and on days off and holidays. This created an unhealthy lifestyle and was very confusing to clients. Over the years I have made my business hours strict, encouraged emails and phone calls (because responses are not expected right away like texts messages are), and it has made such a healthy separation of my personal life and business life! If I were to do it all over again, I would not have gotten a cell phone for the business. ✨ @apple, please create an away/vacation message for texts!!

3️⃣ Too Much Variety: Live by Skin used to offer so many services: facials, peels, lashes, brows, waxing, you name it! After the pandemic quarantine, I learned that I wanted to prove that I am an EXPERT in acne and reparative skincare. My business felt more intentional and honest when I niched down my services to offer what I truly stood behind. I lost clients who only came to me for lashes and waxing, but I gained an amazing reputation as an acne specialist and lifelong clients who trust me with their skin. I regret not doing this sooner!
