i am a WIP .
but here's a diary of my journey, in hope to reach F.I.R.E by 40
To start off
💰I am not financially trained. just sharing my personal experiences.
💡Everyone has different circumstances and life goals
🌻Always be grateful of what we have, dont compare
I like to talk things with numbers, so here we go
These numbers reflect prices >5 years ago (Oops accidentally revealing my age). Please take note of inflation
===
1. Set your goal 💰
The sequence of Step 1 and 2 is interchangeable.
For me, in my earlier days, I had an aggressive goal of keeping to $800 per month for food.
2. Track your expenses based on weekday vs weeekend ☀️🌙
Plan for worst case scenario (Day of splurging) and average it down. Hawker food is my to-go for lunch at $5-$7. However, there are days where I crave for atas/ angmoh caifan (Saladstop, Daily Cut, Urban Mix) so setting a $10 per day lunch gives me a good range to work around with.
It is important to note how our expenses (might) sky rocket on TGIF and the weekends (Social gathering, celebrations) hence though I typically spent $800, I set a $900 budget cap (as per my previous post)
3.Trim it off ✂️ What's the incremental happiness?
Currently I am in a better financial position as compared to back then. And I found myself splurging more on food. However, I noticed that a $10 Arabica % coffee (I still love it btw) is enjoyable, but so is a $3.50 KOI or a $2 Teh Ping.
⭐️Ending off⭐️
This is just a personal sharing as a non foodie. Again, I am grateful that back then, I stayed with my parents and could claim my OT meals. I do understand that for foodies, HDL is life, so this article might not be for you
Happy saving 💰💰💰
