Hii friends ☺️☁️

Struggling with acne is definitely not easy, and I’ve tried all kinds of methods to get rid of acne. Here’s what worked, and why I stopped going for facials.

When I first started struggling with acne, I fell deep into skincare, following recs, tutorials and buying skincare products promoted on social media. Trying out new actives/serums/creams/toner pads didn’t work at all, It basically just further ruined my skin. I then tried facials.

I went to KSkin, and while they did not hardsell packages, the beautician would tell me to come every week, to control and manage pimples. I stopped going after a few months of no progress + the extractions were so freaking painful, I would tear so much! + inconsistent quality due to having different beauticians each time. After that I went to Aeras, a really popular facial clinic at Ion. I bought a package and went there for a few months. Tbh, some parts of the facial were nice and relaxing, but again the extractions were so extremely painful, and left me with pits and scars. I often wondered if the beautician hated me (😂) because why did it hurt so much 😣

After a ten months of again, little to no progress, I decided to see a dermatologist. I was so tired.

I still had active acne, and had a lot of red acne marks, with minimal scarring. The derm told me that my acne marks and scars were due to the extractions, and told me facials were the problem for many of his other patients too! It’s extractions and squeezing that gives you pits, scars and acne marks. 😢😭

I took meds for a month, (stopped due to gastric problems) then switched to simply a cleanser, acne cream, moisturizer and sunscreen, as prescribed by the dermatologist. Consistency with skincare + persevering with patience + a good derm was how I overcame my biggest breakouts.

Looking for a good derm was hard too, and only after a few misses was I able to find the right one for me.

So, if you’re struggling with acne too, I would seriously suggest you not to try skincare products on your own, or go for facials. (yes, I guess facials without the extractions are okay, but unless you really want to, i’d suggest against it, especially if treating acne is your primary concern..) Instead, just go straight to a professional derm who can advise you on the best treatment for your skin! Save your money, time, energy and skin. Acne is so painful on a physical and psychological scale, if you’re battling breakouts right now, I hope you know that you’re not alone, and your skin can and will get better, trust me. ❤️‍🩹 it will get better!
