I lost my grandma yesterday.

It was so sudden I didn't really get a chance to really process it - the whole funeral went by in a blur of tears - but it finally felt real only when I went to home to pack my clothes. I broke down, feeling all my regret, my grief, all at once. Here's just what I noticed and I learnt the past few days.

🖤 everyone processes grief in their own way, don't feel bad for not shedding tears if you don't have any. Just because others cry more doesn't mean they feel more - they just express it differently. Grieve at your own pace.

🖤 check in on your loved ones, and try to be more understanding when they lash out. They may say things out of grief or denial, but don't take it to heart. Check in on them after the funeral, and regularly after that.

🖤 regrets are always aplenty. Don't think you have done less than enough. It will always feel like it, but just know that your loved one would never want to see you beat yourself up like this. Channel that energy into your daily life and make sure those regrets never happen again.

🖤 focus on the living. I made sure to put in more effort to make sure i spent time with my grandpa, who lost his wife of 60 years. Make arrangements and take more time to enjoy moments with your remaining relatives.

🖤 lastly, ALWAYS go for health checkups. Once you're past 24-26, go for regular checks, especially for your inner organs because symptoms show late and may not show at all.

My love goes out to all those who've lost someone they loved. I hope you find your peace and rest soon 🤍
