Trendy new cafe at KSL mall that’s #NotForMe 😫🍵

If you’re looking for an interesting new place to dine at in KSL mall after getting your hair and nails done, this place MIGHT be a hit or miss 🫠 Personally, my friends and I had rlly good vibes when we first entered this restaurant, bc the environment looked really modern and the food choices were also rlly unique.

📍Mockingbird Restaurant and Bar - KSL City

Lg-38 KSL City, 33, Jalan Seladang, Taman Abad, 80250 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia

Opening hours: 10:30am to Midnight daily

All was good until the food came and we tasted it - some of us loved it, some of us were neutral, and most of us just felt like the food didn’t really sit right in our stomachs after for some weird reason 😵‍💫 I wouldn’t say that the food there was totally bad, so it could still be worth a try, but let me break it down before you guys in more detail below:

☕️DRINKS:

Most of the drinks there were pretty decent - some of us had the iced chocolate, but I had the hojicha latte and my friend tried their matcha latte too. I would say they were generally pretty good quality and comparable to the cafes in Singapore. Each drink averaged at around RM15 too, so it’s almost about the same price as in SG.

🍝 PASTA:

Most of us got the tiger prawn aglio olio, and it was a very even split between those that liked it and those that found it way too salty and oily. I think if you’re on the side that likes your food to be extra flavourful, then you might like it! I tried the soft shell crab salted egg yolk pasta that was honestly really decent - it managed to capture the salted egg yolk taste and texture, and matched the pasta and soft shell crab really well. The only down side was that you really can’t eat more than a few mouths because it would be too much and too strong tasting after half the plate. So I would sayyy worth the try but it’s rlly #NotForMe

🥪 CHICKEN SANDWICH:

This dish was honestly such a CATFISH ok. It looks so so good on camera but pls don’t order this - nobody liked it. HAHAHAHHA. Everything just didn’t go well together and the tater tots were also really bland.

🦪 OYSTERS:

Not much to complain about - decently fresh and clean and didn’t give us any stomach ache HAHA.

🍤 FISH & CHIPS:

We also ordered fish & chips because how could that go wrong right but it was rlly the worst fish and chips ever because they used a really weird fish that rlly did not taste good with the deep fried batter. I didn’t even bother taking a picture of it because of how everyone didn’t like it. HAHAH.

Overall, I think if you’re coming here for some bar drinks and snacks, it’s definitely a good place with good vibes. But if you’re looking for good food, I rlly think there are tastier and way cheaper foods that you can get in JB! 🥰
