When I was in my early 20s, I read that ageing starts at 25. Hit by a bout of anxiety, I bought Clarins anti-ageing eye cream to use religiously. However, i started breaking out in really bad milia all around my eye area. It appeared in clusters, and I grew rather self-conscious about them. My guess is that the eye cream was wayyyy too much for my then-youthful skin.

I read about laser procedures for milia and finally decided to give it a try. I wanted to be safe as they were really near my eyes so I opted to visit a dermatologist instead of a facial beautician.

Upon consultation, the dermatologist asked if I would like to remove all my facial moles + milia all around my face, instead of my eye area. So that’s what I decided to do.

I had to come back another day for the laser treatment. First, they applied a numbing cream all around my face. This made my skin sting a little, and I asked the nurse to wipe off some. This turned out to be a regret, as my skin wasn’t numb enough when the laser was applied.

The actual experience with the laser felt like how a laser feels I guess. Like a rly hot sting, and you will smell some burning. It was okay around my cheeks, but damn did it hurt like a MF around my eyes 🥹

My tears just flowed out and the doctor had to take a tissue to wipe it away and reassured me “you’re doing well and very brave!!”😂😂

I actually had a skin coloured mole next to my nose removed with this doctor as well ($250 I think). As it healed really well, i decided to come back for the Milia treatment too.

Mole removals would need an injection as they are usually deeper. The injection is the most painful part, and there was no sensation with the laser because it was already numb.

After the treatment, I had to come back 2 months later for a follow-up after giving my skin some time to grow back, and for the scabs to recover. Unfortunately, after healing, I could see that the milia wasn’t entirely lasered away and I had to do a second round. The doctor just runs her fingers over your face and she can feel where the little bumps are at.

After the second round, most milia seems to have evened out. And my skin is smoother now 🥰

I’ll be going for a third round soon, hopefully for the final treatment.

This was a longgg journey because the skin needs to heal before further treatment can be done. Similarly for the mole removals because it needs to be done layer by layer depending on how deep it is.

Milia treatment is a go for me to smoothen my complexion. But since the cost of this was was pretty high ($1200), I may try to consider cheaper alternatives for skin maintenance if my milia grows back.

I would say… if your milia is around tricky areas, deffo go to a dermatologist first in case the extraction is trickier than expected. The laser equipment may differ btw places too, so do check that out too!

Update: I will not be sharing the clinic as I’m not super sure they are the best. I’m sure there are other derms that are good as well! Also, I recently noticed that one burn was a little too deep and it caused a bit of scarring 🥲
