Hi Ladies and Lemon8! 👋 I know you have seen a lot of “opened jar” symbol in your usual skincares. Not just in skincare but also in other cosmetic products. This is the sign of PAO or Period After Opening. But what does this really mean? Let me explain it to you! And what is the difference between the PAO and Expiration date?

Here are the Keypoints to remember!

📍 PAO (Period After Opening)

- lets you know how long the product is safe to use after the day of its opening.

- that the product is safe to use for up to the number of months written in the jar symbol after you’ve opened the product. After that, the brand can no longer guarantee the safety or effectiveness of the product.

- PAO normally only lasts for a year.

📍 Expiration Date (Shelf-life)

- Expiration date indicates the length of time a product will remain fresh and stable, despite it being left unopen and kept at room temperature.

- expiration date can last up to 3 years starting from the day of production.

Also, based on what I’ve read, The number written on the jar said that it depends on thei preservation system, stability testing of the product. So products with newer, and less-stable preservatives, tend to have a shorter PAO compared to those with strong preservative system!

That is why if you see “natural” on your product label, make sure to check that ‘period after opening’ label carefully!

📍 Take note!

A product is not always expired just because the PAO time has elapsed. The product, however, is no longer usable. As a result, it's important to pay attention to a product's expiration and PAO time! Because using products that have passed their PAO or are otherwise no longer effective and is also harmful to the skin.

And That’s it! Hope this post helps you in determining the difference between PAO and Expiration Date! Take more precaution in opening your products and don’t forget to take not of its PAO! You’re welcome! ❤
