PROFILED AT SEPHORA???

okay so story time…

so last night I went to @Sephora to pick up some minis that I wanted to try - I even made a post about it! I normally order online but I wanted to go in person so I could get it asap. I frequently shop at Ulta (I like their rewards program WAY better), and since they didn’t carry the brands I wanted to try, I had no choice BUT to go to Sephora.

When I walked in, I was immediately greeted and asked what I was looking for. I said I wanted the SAIE glow highlighters in the minis and before the associate could direct me to them, I found them immediately. They asked if I needed anymore help, and I said no, but I’m going to look around. They said okay and I walked away. When I was at the Glow Recipe wall, a different associate came up behind me and was like can I help you find something and I said oh uh yeah I’m looking for the mini watermelon toner and dew drops and they said okay sure it’s over here. As I was being led to the grab and go tower, that employee goes “oh I like your bag!” And I didn’t think anything of it but I said thank you and how I’ve had it for three years and it’s still holding up. Then the other employee that greeted me said oh are you needing some minis? As I was looking at the tower and I was like yeah, I found them thank you! So I walked away again, trying to find the Charolette Tilbury duo set. I’m looking for it on the shelf but I couldn’t find it so I picked up a different product to look at it (it was the mini pressed powder, so cute btw) and the first employee that greeted me came up behind me and was like oh are you wanting a powder? At this point I’m getting kind of annoyed because it was obvious they were watching me and following me around. Mind you, I wasn’t the only person in the store. There was women with a backpack walking around and a man that was trying to return a cologne that paid “cash” and lost the receipt four months ago. The man was up front talking when I was grabbing the minis, and the woman was by the fragrances. I didn’t see the two employees help either of them until the man walked up to the register and the other woman checked out. I told the employee that came up to me initially that I just wanted to find the duo set and then I was done. He then says to me oh let me grab it for you, finds it and then says to me, would you like me to hold your items up front while you look around? I was like okay sure but in my head I was like wait does Sephora DO that? So he took my items and walked them up front. I then was looking at the rare beauty and noticed a woman come in with long blonde hair (she was v pretty 😭) and looked at the Charlotte Tilbury section. NO ONE TALKED TO HER. NO ONE. I’m not even being dramatic, she was literally left alone and as I was looking at the luminous blush, the SAME EMPLOYEE THAT FOLLOWED ME AROUND asked if I wanted a color match. At this point, I’m so anxious and uncomfortable that I was like no, I’m ready to check out.

I left, got my freebie, and I sat in my car for a few minutes to calm down from what just happened to me. I couldn’t understand why I was being followed so much. My outfit was cute I thought and I had make up on and my bag was tiny? So I didn’t understand, I didn’t think I look sus at all?? AND even if I WAS looking like a hot mess, I still shouldn’t have been followed like that.

Am I being dramatic? Has this happened to any of you? I’m not sure if I’ll be shopping in person there again…
