It takes a long time to become a doctor in the United states. It takes a lot of time, effort, determination, and also money.

Sometimes I find that when Med students or Physicians bring up the topic of money, there's always somebody there who's going to say “ See they only wanted to become a doctor for the money!!” . When this could not be further from the truth and let me tell you why.

In order to become a doctor you have to do four years of undergrad, four years of medical school ( and a lot of people take Gap years in between this time in order to strengthen their application), 3 to 7 years of residency, and then a fellowship after that. How many decades is that? I lost track. On top of this you also have to take out a lot of money in order to go to Med school. The average medical student today is going to graduate with around $300,000 in loans.

There are definitely easier, faster, less stressful ways to get rich then becoming a doctor. With this being said though, doctors are still people. They should still care about how much they're making, because they still deserve to live a comfortable life. Work-life balance is extremely important for everybody's profession, including doctors. they should not feel guilty about wanting to know more about how they're getting paid. If you went through all those years of training, sacrificing your twenties and part of your 30s, I think that you deserve to be able to talk about your pay, I'm all for pay transparency!
