How I use a textbook in med school

I don’t. I havent opened up a text book since i’ve started medical school haha. I find it strange when people ask me about textbooks because honestly i forgot they existed. I study off of the lecture slides, small group cases and practice problems because those have everything i need to know for the exams and all the high yield points.

Some lecturers will tell us that certain textbooks can help if we’re still confused. They provide the chapters and page numbers we would need to use as supplemental information but it is definitely not necessary.

For me, just reading out of a textbook never helped me learn, even in college, so it is definitely not something i do while in med school currently haha.

There is, however, a book that some students call their holy grail and it’s First Aid. That book is supposed to be super helpful for studying for STEP 1 (a huge exam that all med students have to take in order to move forward) so i will probably purchase that when the time comes lol.
