Okay, so let’s talk about it.

Dean wasn’t a bad boyfriend. He was actually one of the best.

The “I love you.”

Let’s put ourselves in Dean’s shoes here okay? He just took his girlfriend on a VERY expensive date, and bought her over 5 different kinds of pasta because she couldn’t decide which one she wanted, and then takes her to the body of the car that he will be building her by hand to tell her that he loves her. And then she looks him in his eyes and replies to him “i love the car! 😀”

ouch??? yeah no shiz you love the car. Anyways, i don’t understand how people want to preach that Rory is just a 16 year old child without giving Dean that same curtesy. He’s allowed to be hurt by that reaction, after chasing her for weeks and feeling like no matter what, she will never feel the same. That’s how HIS 16 year old brain took that, and that’s understandable. He’s a boy, he can’t be expected to understand her reasoning like she doesn’t understand his.

The Harvard Fight

Okay this was dramatic on both of their parts, Rory was pressuring herself to get ready for Harvard in 1 weekend, and Dean just wanted time with his girlfriend. The narrative that Dean didn’t care about Harvard, is complete crap. Let’s not forget, Jess was the one who showed up to Yale after his mothers wedding, and begged Rory to drop out and leave with him. Oh, but he’s the one who cares the most about her education? Both Rory and Dean apologized to eachother, even though Dean repeatedly reassured Rory that he was completely in the wrong and of course he knows Harvard is a priority. He himself even said he had no idea what he was thinking, and this fight was an obvious plot filler for an episode.

Jess.

I hate him with everything in me ❤️ i get it, he’s the cute bad boy that the fans love the aesthetic of. But he literally treated Rory awful. Awful. Listen to all of this. He had 0 respect for Lorelai, her bestfriend and MOTHER. He had 0 interest in doing anything that SHE enjoyed. It had to be mutual between them. (Yet Dean stands with Rory for 2 hours outside while she book shops, but whatever). The one thing Rory wanted to do was go to Prom, he couldn’t even make that happen. She begged and begged for him to attend the winter festival with her, he only did it when he saw Dean would be there and wanted to stake his claim. He made Rory sit at home, when they had plans, waiting for him to call. He stole her Dean bracelet, then proceeded to put it back in her room and give her the idea of where it was to make himself look good. Rory had to give up a book that she was throughly excited about and enjoying, just to get him to go to meet her grandmother who she respects so much, but he couldn’t be bothered without a bribe. Not to mention how awful he acted during that dinner, over not being able to act like a man and tell his gf the truth. And he abandoned her. Repeatedly, he ghosted this girl with no explanation or goodbyes. Let’s not forget that party scene either ladies and gentlemen! He treated her like this for no reason, she never did anything to him. And guess what? There was never a heartfelt apology for it all. Ever. What a complete tool. Anyways if you like Jess, go rewatch the show and think of Rory as your sister or bestfriend with a man treating her like Jess did. You won’t like it. He is a fun fling, he was never boyfriend material. He had no right stealing her from someone who treated her 200x better. Rory even admits to regretting leaving Dean for Jess right before their affair!! She said she really messed up there.

Dean had every. single. right. to. act. jealous. Every single right. He knew Jess had a thing for his girlfriend, just like all you girls KNOW when another girl wants your man. Yet, Dean had to be told to let it go, to be nice, to just give him a chance!! How would you feel if your man asked you to do that for the new girl in town? He had to watch Rory fall in love with another man right in front of him. And yet, he’s the bad guy? for being angry after finding his gf home with Jess after she repeatedly told him that morning how she wanted to be alone? Yeah he has a right to react, and he was more respectful and cool headed than anyone else would have been. Jess is the guy who screams at Rory when she doesn’t want to lose her virginity upstairs at a house party, and Dean is the one who forgives her instantly, and invited her to dinner, after she hung out with Jess alone and let him drive and crash her car DEAN BUILT BY HAND FOR HER. While he was out of town! But he screams at her for no reason right?? Please. That boy had a better handle on his emotions, than most 16 year old boys would have in those situations.

Lindsey

This is the only negative thing Dean has done in my book. I can’t excuse a cheater, he knew what he was doing and he was extremely selfish and disgusting. The only reason i can come up with why he did it was that the girl that he loved, and that left him for another man, completely destroyed his self esteem. I think it changed who he was deep down and made him become a bit depressed and have a lot of self doubt. So when he saw that she wanted him again, that he was FINALLY good enough, he jumped for it. He was 19 and had no business being married to begin with, but i also think his age factored into him jumping into bed with Rory.

Rory knew what she was doing. She was treated like actual garbage by Jess, and that wasn’t what she thought was going to happen. She admitted to Lane that she was expecting Dean to pine after her for a really long time at the hockey game, so her seeing him not doing that, but moving on, made her want him back. I mean like she said “He’s MY Dean!” She wanted her princess treatment again and was jealous Lindsey was getting it. Rory immediately thought of herself as his wife, thinking how much better she would be for him. Not only did she aid Dean in destroying his marriage, she proceeds to dip to Europe for the summer because she had the audacity to get mad at her mommy for judging her for it!

Anyways, Dean wasn’t this toxic abusive boyfriend this fandom made him out to be. That was absolutely Jess, but even more so, it was Rory. Dean loved her, and he showed it. Jess loved the idea of her, he loved the chase, but ultimately he has no idea how to treat a girl. I admire their friendship, i feel she will always love him as a person. She’s proud of him and what he accomplished. But she wouldn’t regret their relationship, if she was in love with him. And she did regret it.
