First let’s debunk some myths… Running is not the only form of cardio; the harder you work out, does not mean you will burn fat.

So what is cardio?

By definition, cardio (cardiovascular exercise) is any activity that increases blood circulation in your body and increases your heart rate.

What types of cardio are there?

Low intensity: this is going to be your walking or jogging exercises. Something not super hardcore but something you can maintain at a constant rate for about 40 minutes.

This is best for burning fat and calories.

Moderate intensity: this is going to be your biking and speed walking. Usually around 20-30 minutes.

This is best for improving your fitness levels and speeding up the caloric burn.

High intensity: this is going to be your stair masters, stair-steppers, running/sprinting. Something you can only do for short durations. Something that you can only do for 20 minutes maximum.

This is best for increasing anaerobic fitness and burning the most amount of calories.
