Locals say the donkeys are desendents of donkeys that helped minors during the Gold Rush. When the minors were done the left the donkeys behind.

Now you can say the donkeys are Oatman’s village mascot. Purchase a bag of donkey food for $1 and enjoy the pure joy these donkeys give.
