Chinese Skewers at Bugis under $1.30?! 🍢🔥

A month ago, I visited BBQ Box 🍖 and stumbled upon this eatery 🍽️, HenLeShan 🏔️ and was intrigued by the eatery’s furnishing, very reminiscent of the eateries I visited during my Taiwan trip 🇹🇼! I decided to visit the area again with my friend a few weeks ago and I can safely say we were very impressed by both the ambience and food presentation and taste 😋💯

😋 WHAT I GOT

⭐️ SKEWERS ($3.80 for a bundle of 3): 9/10 🍢🔥

To all the 重口味 eaters (people who LOVE STRONG FLAVOURS), the skewers here are PERFECT for you. They are aggressively seasoned with sichuan and cumin flavours 🌶️. One bite and the skewers explode with flavour 💣 My friend and I personal recommendations were the Vegetables 🥗 (Corn 🌽, Lotus Root 🪷, Potato 🥔 and Oyster Mushroom 🍄). The Pork 🐷 was unfortunately quite tough, would not order again. That being said, if you are not the biggest fan of sichuan and cumin seasonings, this might not be up your alley 🫤 BBQ Box might be a better option for you, the flavours were a lot more mild and palatable.

PRO TIP 💡: Looking for an eatery PERFECT for a group of 3? I highly recommend this spot! Since the skewers can only be ordered as a bundle of 3, everyone gets to have 1 skewer for each ingredient! No more paiseh skewers left 🤭

⭐️ SOUR SOUP BEEF RICE NOODLES($11.80): 8.5/10 🐮🍋🍜

If you are a big fan of Sauerkraut Fish, you will love this dish. It’s quintessentially the same broth served with thick bee hoon and fatty hotpot beef slices. With the spicy 🌶️ and sour 🍋 undertones, it was very 开胃(appetising) and made me want to eat more 😋 Just remember to give it a good mix as there was a layer of oil on top of the dish!

⭐️ BEEF BRISKET RICE NOODLES ($12.80): 7.5/10 🐮🌶️🍜

This was pretty good too, definitely more savoury but I personally prefer the sour soup version as I enjoyed the tangy element that made the dish more appetising 🤤! I also thought that the fatty sliced beef tasted better compared to the beef brisket cubes!

PRO TIP 💡: The bowls may look dainty but they surprisingly can fill 1 pax easily. If you are ordering skewers, I highly encourage sharing a bowl of noodles instead to avoid over-ordering.

⭐️ HAND-MADE ICE JELLY WITH MINI RICE BALL ($5.50): 6.5/10 🍮🍡

This was a rather unique and intriguing dish. I think it was my first time trying this type of jelly and pumpkin seeds. But it was probably not something I would crave for again. I also found the syrup to be too sweet 🍭 for my liking, making it rather difficult to finish 😅.

🛋Ambience & thoughts:

Overall, I really liked the furnishing of the eatery 😍. It’s as though I was transported to a restaurant in China like the ones featured in C-dramas. Compared to BBQ Box, this eatery was a lot more peaceful and chill 😌, perfect spot for a catch up with a friend 👯‍♀️! If you are in Bugis area and craving for Chinese skewers, highly recommend checking this place out!
