My Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) Journey 2023 Part 2

Thanks for making it to Part 2 of my Abdominoplasty Journey!

In early 2022, my friend actually shared with me about her friend's Abdominoplasty, which she did it at . She had a similar history as me.. went through weight loss

surgery and have loose skin problem like me. So she asked if I am interested in meeting her doctor.

I went ahead to Polyclinic, and they gave me a referral to SKH plastic surgery department.

In May 2022, I met the doctor Dr Wong in my scheduled appt at SKH. He was a bubbly chubby doctor, and through him, I got to know how Abdominoplasty works! I exposed my body (for body examination lahhhhh) to him, and he shared with me what can be done and so forth. I was super ashamed of my body, but he has reassured me it's normal amongst the massive weight loss patients he had seen.

He squeezed my saggy tummy, and he suggested that I could do my body trunk (Tummy area) first. As for my arms and inner thighs, it will be another surgery if I want to put myself under the surgical knives again.

We initially scheduled the surgery in September 2022, but due to some health issues he rescheduled it to Jan 2023. My blood test results wasnt favourable. My creatinine level was higher than normal, my blood pressure wasn't well controlled, and he's worried that the surgery would have more complications to it. He wants me to see the renal and endocrine doctors to make sure everything is fine before this surgery. So he decided to delay the surgery for another 6 months and then take the blood test again. He rescheduled the surgery to January 2023. I was a little disappointed, but I guess it's for the best of me.

So fast forward to January 2023 and the doctor finally gave me the green light to go ahead! On 9th January 2023, I took a new leap of faith and went through this surgery.

I was pushed in on the 9th Jan 2023 8am and pushed back to the ward at about 5pm. I vividly remember the nurse told me the surgery went great and the surgery took 8 hours. The doctor removed about 7.8kg of skin off my body. To be honest, I didn't feel much pain except discomfort. I was prescribed with Morphine which I can press the button at any time, and it will be released into my body to relieve the pain.

I stayed in the hospital for 11 days in total. And 6 days I was in the HD and ICU due to my o2 drop. Trust me, I did not feel breathless, haha. Just that the numbers looked threatening to the doctors, and they have to ensure my O2 picks up to at least 99% ( I was as low as 85%).

I was finally discharged 2 days before the Lunar CNY. I'm glad I made it home.

Many would have wondered. How much does it cost for this type of surgery. It's definitely not easy on the pocket, especially when my final bill came in at S$30,000. But for myself, it was deemed as a medical reason for this surgery. Hence, it was subsidised.
