my horse’s Weekly spa day:

Once a week I try to dedicate a day to caring for my horse “all over.” I still do some of these things every time we ride and such but it’s good to spend a day with your horse without riding and just working on ground work and spending time together. It helps build your bond and if your horse is anything like mine, he loves the attention he gets from it😆. Yesterday we spent the evening together, I started out lunging him in the yard for about 30 minutes, we just taught him how to do this. Not sure if he knew before or not? I bought him as an experienced horse as he was in a drill team, a flag horse, a trail horse for a lesson barn, and one of those horses you pay to ride on mountain trails. So you’d think somewhere along the lines he would know how to lunge… every time I tried to lunge him before it was the most confusing thing ever to him and he never quiet understood what I was asking. We don’t have our round pen up yet so this may have been some of the issue as well… anyways. After lunging I tied him up and gave him a treat then let him pick some grass while I brushed him off, brushed his hair, and picked his feet. I then put hoof seal on his feet to help harden and prevent any cracks or issues in the future. When I got him we struggled with keeping one of his hooves from cracking, it was a mess. They’re all perfect now thank goodness! After that I spray him with fly spray, then use some fly prevention wipes on his face to help clean out the “eye boogies” as well as wipe on some fly prevention while doing so. These are really good because he is picky about his face being touched with foreign objects lol! I also apply some cream, can’t remember what it’s called but it’s by the brand Dumor and is really great for healing cuts and scratches fast. I use this for his little spots he scratches on a fence post or the barn and loses hair 🤦🏻‍♀️ it helps heal and grow back the hair pretty quick so this is something I’ve ALWAYS kept on hand with him. It works amazing. After all this he gets some more treats for being a good boy then I let him back into the pasture for the night🐴
