Saturday afternoon painting 🎨

Brené Brown talks about our “fucking first times” (FFT) - an idea that counteracts the phenomenon that we must be perfect at everything we do, immediately, even if it’s our first attempt ever.

I feel this, hard. I feel this intrinsic need to be naturally good (not just good, but like, extremely talented) at everything I do, without ever learning or practicing and I KNOW it’s so silly, but it’s just how it feels.

With all the hobbies I’m trying lately, I’m trying to focus on just DOING the activity, not being the best at it. I don’t need to be Picasso, I don’t need to be baking at bakery-standards, every recipe I cook doesn’t need to belong in a restaurant.

And so yesterday, I hunkered down in my favorite PJs, with a warm cup of tea, and just played with paint. I picked colors that made my heart happy, painted scenes that bring me joy, and just let myself enjoy the process of creating something in a new medium.
