These are the pointers I wish I knew before I travelled there~ Hopefully these would at least prepared you mentally!
1. Bangkokโs Train Systems ๐
They have 2 train systems; BTS & MRT. Seem similar but have their individual differences, donโt mix them up!
BTS:
- Skytrain that goes across from North to South East area
- Normally seen overhead
MRT:
- Subway that goes along the main roads
- Normally underground
During my trip, I would normally take the MRT to a common station then switch to BTS to reach my hotel. Both train systems are fairly easy to navigate just be aware of which system you are going to use. ++ We always buy tickets directly from the train stations and I personally find that itโs easier and faster :โ)
2. Always check the stitching on clothes ๐
Its undeniable that clothes in Bangkok are super cheap but are they of good quality? To ensure the clothes you buy are somewhat durable, do check the stitchings! Ensure there arenโt much loose threads in the stitchings and the buttons can fit through the holes (Idk why but I bought an outerwear where the buttons cannot fit thru the holes?? ๐ฅฒ) Make sure the quality isnโt bad and make it worth the purchase! ๐ฅธ
3. Be ready for crowds in night markets ๐ช
The crowds there can be insane, sometimes I find myself squeezing thru people just to get ahead ๐ฅฒ So just make sure to wear comfortable shoes when you are walking thru (wont recco scandals, your feet might get stepped) Have a little system in place to ensure you and your friends can visit every vendor and buy the things you wanna buy ๐ค For us, we decided to walk through all the booths first before settling down to eat so that explains the bags of food we have to carry (maybe not the best strategy but yes) ๐ก
4. Traffic in Bangkok is Terrible ๐
Traffic jams in Bangkok are super common so be prepared to wait for your grab to arrive much later && be stuck in jams ๐ฆNormally, we waited 30mins for our grab to arrive and get stuck in traffic for an hour ๐ตโ๐ซ Soo js be prepared!
5. 1 SGD = 25.89 Thai Baht ๐ต
Well this is js additional knowledge but the money changing rate has been highly consistent over the year so if you want to calculate how much the item costs in SGD, just divide by 25, it will make your life easier :)
Thatโs all for my rabble ๐๏ธ Have a safe and fun trip to Thailand ๐
