During new years weekend (28 Dec to 1 Jan 2024) I went to Bangkok with my family and my BF. Here’s my itinerary, tips, recommendations and hotel stay!

My itinerary (has some places I wouldn’t recommend)

Day 1:

✨ Siam Paragon for shopping:

This place is sort of like Ion/Ngee Ann City but you can definitely get your luxury products here with tax refund. We also bought a luggage as one of our ones spoilt and the department store actually provided free delivery to our hotel. To enjoy this service, you need to spend a min of 5000 Baht at the department store. Ate at the thai boat noodle store at the basement and it was GREAT! You can also try the After You Cafe here which I know had great reviews. There is also a bowling alley here and movie theatre.

✨ Continue shopping in this area: Central World, Siam Centre:

Tbh I didn’t have time to shop else where in the Siam area because we spent a lot of time in Siam Paragon and we were tired and went back to the hotel to rest but if you had more time you could hang around here.

❌ Pratunam night market:

It was boring. The clothes were very low quality and not fashionable at all and there weren’t much food either. They were mostly selling small things like slippers, usb cables etc

Maybe go to Jodd Fairs because I heard nice reviews about it.

Day 2:

✨Chatuchak Market:

Highly recommend and you could spend a whole day here like me! There is a youth section with more stuff for the younger audience like cool socks, bags and cheap clothes. There is also a small mall nearby that sells a lot of Otaku stuff, dog cafe, exotic pet shop and even betta shop. Quite interesting to see snakes being sold as pets.

✨ Emporium and Emsphere:

Emporium is just like Siam Paragon so mayb just have a meal here but I highly recommend checking out Emsphere because it’s quite vibey. There is a 🔥Gentle Women 🔥store there and the 🔥Daddy and the Muscle Academy🔥 store there too! There are also food options here but its more pricey.

Day 3:

✨ The grand palace

Okay so I’m on the fence about this place because it was really crowded and cost $20 per pax to go in. Plus, it was very hot and it’s not an indoor kind of place so I was sweating! But it’s very beautiful with the old architecture and you could visit the place if you are into old architecture and history. Also it’s a place where royal proceedings happen so dress code is quite strict! Do check it before going. Mainly you need to wear pants or skirts that cover below your knees and cover your shoulders.

✨ Take a boat ride to Icon Siam

Walk a while to the boat harbour area and the boat along the Chao Phraya River will take you to multiple locations including other temples or Icon Siam

✨ Icon Siam

Basement has a lot of food and mimics the river market which looks very cool. There are also shops for the general public that are not very high end and a market selling Japanese products. Cool place to visit!

✨ Platinum mall:

Affordable shopping and lots of fake products are sold here! Interesting place to shop and reminds me of bugis street.

Day 4

❓MBK Centre

We only went there to try out an escape room because we were lazy to do go-kart so you could probably decide on your own. We did the mild horror room which had the shortest duration but it was quite easy to solve so mayb choose another room. But overall that mall was quite empty and there is not a lot of clothing shopping. It does have some phone shops, fake goods but nothing very interesting. Reminds me of lucky plaza or some old mall in SG.

✅ Proceeded to the airport! Try to go like 3 hours before your flight if you are doing tax refunds because there is always a long queue. ❗️

Other tips:

✅ Traffic was quite bad during the new year period and I suspect all year round so Grab is hard to book and even when the Grab app says the car is coming in 5mins, it could become 30mins when the traffic is too bad. ❗️Also, try Bolt to get cheaper rides faster!

✅ Their BTS and MRT is also quite accessible so try that instead of Grab or Bolt as it can be faster sometimes!

My accommodation:

Valia Hotel

5 Star Hotel ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Took their cheapest room (Superior Room) which accommodates 2 people as hotels were quite pricey during new years. It is a little small but it’s decent with a good toilet. Unfortunately during my stay there was 1 night where the aircon did not work which was a bummer but also could just be my bad luck. They aren’t very near any BTS MRT station but they provide a shuttle service every 15min to BTS (skytrain) Phrom Phong station which is beside Emporium & Emquarter. Note that the shuttle service is like a buggy not a mini bus so don’t expect too much! Would recommend it but if you can afford try to upgrade but Superior Room wasn’t bad for a short trip! ✅
